John Burton Harter 1940 - 2002 Born in Jackson , Mississippi , Harter grew up in Louisville , Kentucky. Formally educated, he was a curator at the Historic New Orleans Collections and at the Louisiana State Museum where he retired as Director of Collections in 1991. After his retirement he travelled and pursued his art full-time. He was murdered in his studio in 2002. The killer has never been apprehended. At his death he was preparing a studio and exhibition space to show LBGTQ artists modeled on the Leslie/Lohman Gallery in New York . J.B. Harter, Encounters with the Nude Male.
